The core differences between halal beef and regular beef primarily lie in three aspects: religious culture, slaughtering methods, and quality management.
From a religious and cultural perspective, halal beef strictly adheres to Islamic Sharia law. Before slaughter, a Muslim imam must recite the name of Allah, ensuring that the entire process meets “halal” standards. This ritual imbues the beef with religious and cultural significance, whereas ordinary beef is not subject to such requirements.
In terms of slaughtering methods, halal beef employs the “three-cut” technique—quickly severing the cow’s veins, esophagus, and trachea—to ensure thorough blood drainage, thereby minimizing bacterial residues and the gamey odor. At the same time, halal standards strictly prohibit the use of dead cattle, diseased cattle, and inhumane slaughter methods such as electrocution or suffocation. By contrast, the slaughtering process for conventional beef may, for economic reasons, adopt more efficient methods that could potentially compromise meat quality.
In short, the uniqueness of halal beef stems from its religious and cultural origins as well as specific slaughtering regulations, whereas conventional beef places greater emphasis on meeting diverse consumer demands. Both types of beef, however, must adhere to national standards when it comes to food safety.
